This is the face of a brave rescued therapy horse named Gunnar…otherwise known as “Wonder Boy” to those who knew him as a therapeutic riding horse. At 22, this remarkable Arabian Cross has stood as a steady partner for thousands of at-risk children, first responders, veterans and families working through trauma, grief, and anxiety in our psychotherapy programs.
Now Gunnar faces a serious challenge of his own: his cancer has returned, and he requires surgery to give him the chance to continue serving those who need him most. Berkshire Horseworks will drive him to the specialist hoping that he will not need another phallectomy, basically amputating his privates to remove the highly invasive cancer.
Please send all good thoughts as Gunnar’s love runs so deep for those with whom he has worked for over a decade. He was born to be a healer and to save lives. He needs your love and support to face the obstacles ahead. He can navigate them with all of us by his side. He was in remission from this terrible disease for 4 years and he will beat cancer again with your help.
Depending on the diagnosis, the surgery can run between $2,800 and nearly $15,000. Berkshire HorseWorks will make sure he gets what is needed. Our team here at this small nonprofit love this boy. And know how much he means to the people whose lives he has touched.
